Escaping witchcraft, finding hope in Christ
As a ministry supporting children, women, and teachers, we are grateful to have the Dignity-inspired Life Group running in our Centre because we have seen lives holistically transformed through us meeting together in this way.
The Life Group has continued to be a true source of hope for the people in our community. Through it, some have had their eyes opened, some have seen that they want to change, and some have come to Christ.
One of the women that the Life Group has helped is Sylvia. She got married young and has a one-year-old daughter. It did not take long before things started to go wrong in her marriage. Her husband became involved in witchcraft, and she was being forced into the practice. Because she came from a Christian family, she found this difficult.
Her marriage grew increasingly challenging, and eventually, she began to remember the time when she had known God. She had heard me sharing Christian messages on our horn speakers every week and learned about the Life Group we’re involved with.
After Sylvia explained her trauma, I prayed for her and invited her to join the group, which meets every Tuesday at our Centre. Sylvia joined us and started studying the Bible and praying with us each week. However, she was struggling to find food. To help, we were able to offer her some cleaning work at the Centre.
Eventually, during one of the group sessions, she gave her life to Christ. This only made things in her marriage worse. Her husband told her that she had to either agree to participate in his witchcraft or get out of his home. When she refused, the man started abusing her and told her to sleep outside. He gathered some neighbours who had altars in their houses and tried to put a curse on her.
She had nowhere to go with her little girl. She called me for help, and we allowed her to temporarily stay in one of the rooms at the Centre. She has been with us for close to three months now. Sylvia continues to participate in the Life Group and is coping with the numerous challenges facing her. We’ve helped her start a small business selling charcoal. She needs support, though, including prayers. We are praying with her and we pray she will eventually be able to take the light and truth of Jesus home to her community.
